Holmes Announces Run for Prosecuting Attorney

Van Buren attorney Kevin Holmes has announced his candidacy for Prosecuting Attorney for theTwenty-First Judicial District. Holmes seeks to replace Marc McCune who was recently appointedto Circuit Judge.

“Judge McCune has done a great job in getting Crawford County where it is today and I plan tocontinue the legacy he leaves behind. We will put drug dealers behind bars, prosecute to the fullestextent sexual predators and child abusers and support our state and local law enforcement agenciesas they battle to keep Crawford County safe. As prosecutor, I will continue to expand the alternativesentencing courts to help combat opioid and drug abuse in Crawford County and will look forinnovative ways to help the families of drug users,” Holmes said. “I have the commitment,experience and leadership to be the next Prosecuting Attorney and I look forward to meeting andlistening to the concerns of the citizens of Crawford County.”

Holmes was one of the first defense attorneys in Crawford County to get a client into Veterans Court,an alternate sentencing court designed to help current and former military personnel get treatmentfor mental health and addiction while in the criminal justice system. “Quick intervention is key indealing with someone suffering from addiction or mental health breakdowns. I am proud of thework I have done with veterans to get them treatment and ensure that small lapses in judgment donot ruin their career and lives. As prosecutor, my office will continue to look for opportunities toassist veterans and others to get treatment and help,” Holmes said.

Kevin Holmes is a 1997 graduate of Van Buren High School, where he was Student CouncilPresident and a member of the Pointer baseball team. Kevin graduated from the University ofArkansas at Little Rock with a Bachelors of Arts in Political Science. While at UALR, Kevinworked for United States Senator Tim Hutchinson and was part of the George W. Bush for Presidentteam. Kevin graduated from the University of Arkansas School of Law in 2004 and returned hometo Crawford County.

Kevin Holmes is a founding member of Hopkins & Holmes, Attorneys at Law, and has been anattorney in Crawford County for fifteen years. Holmes has served as a Deputy City Prosecutor, childadvocate in family law cases, has argued cases before the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals and theArkansas Supreme Court and represented thousands of clients in civil, domestic and criminalmatters. In July 2015, Kevin was appointed to serve as a Special Justice on the Arkansas SupremeCourt by Governor Asa Hutchinson. “Serving as a Special Justice on the Arkansas Supreme Courtwas one of my greatest experiences as an attorney. I appreciate the trust Governor Hutchinsonplaced in me and I will be forever grateful to him for the opportunity,” Holmes said.

Holmes served as a Justice of the Peace in Crawford County for two terms. He also serves as legalcounsel for the 1st Choice Pregnancy Medical Center in Fort Smith, a non-profit agency designed toassist with pregnancy options and avoid abortions. He is a graduate of Leadership Crawford Countyand as well as the Van Buren Citizens Police Academy. Kevin is married to his wife Shannon andthey have three children, Gracie, Reagan and Piper.
